31 Jul, 2023
A team of five HKBU undergraduate students won the Excellent Financial Education Project Bronze Award at the Personal Finance Ambassador Programme 2022/23. They were among the 15 teams from eight tertiary institutions participating in the programme and competition this year co-organised by the Investor and Financial Education Council (IFEC), HKEX Foundation Limited and St. James’ Settlement.

Themed “Money in the Tech”, the Programme provided trainings to the Personal Finance Ambassadors through a series of professional training and activities, then challenged them to develop creative and engaging financial education projects to promote financial wellness messages to schoolmates. Named “Infinity Money”, the HKBU team led by Jie Yu CHEN (BBA Accounting, Year 4) with Hoi Hang Yuen (BBA Finance, Year 4) and three other HKBU students, successfully integrated online and offline activities to disseminate basic and emerging financial knowledge to HKBU students. The team hosted booth events, organised games and created online contents via social media and pop-up quizzes to engage around 400 students and promote a range of financial topics from money saving, credit score and credit cards, to MPF, NFT and virtual banks. They were shortlisted as the six finalists to present at the final Presentation and Award Ceremony, sharing with the judges the whole journey of becoming a Personal Finance Ambassador.

The five other finalist teams were The University of Hong Kong (Gold), The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (Silver), HK Polytechnic University, SPEED (Bronze), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Bronze) and The Education University of Hong Kong (Bronze).

First launched in 2018, the Personal Finance Ambassador Programme aims to strengthen tertiary students’ financial literacy and develop their service-learning experience through a variety of interesting activities for them to apply their knowledge and skills to address the real life personal finance issues. The Personal Finance Ambassadors are provided with professional training in the day camp and project meetings, then they will carry out a variety of creative team projects to promote financial education messages to students at their own institutions. The best six teams will be selected for the presentation and compete for the prizes and awards of Excellent Financial Education Initiative.
